October 15 2024, our Terremplo Hub named ‘Together for the future’ met to explore the ‘Innovative approaches to Digital and Environmental Transition’, which highlighted crucial issues for the professional integration of young people in Picardie Maritime.
Digital transition: a generational paradox
Our discussions revealed a surprising phenomenon: although the current generation is hyper-connected, it is experiencing difficulties in using professional computer technologies.
In particular, young people express :
A lack of confidence in online procedures
Difficulties in dealing with the complexity of paperless procedures
A reluctance to provide personal information on the Internet
We have also observed a generational divide in the use of digital tools. Where previous generations favoured PCs and traditional office software, Generation Z is turning more to smartphones and versatile applications such as Canva.
Mobility: an environmental and social challenge
Mobility has emerged as a major issue in the environmental transition. Our discussions highlighted:
The limited availability of public transport in Picardie Maritime
The difficulties of accessing employment and training without a mobility solution
The emergence of alternative solutions such as electric scooters and bicycles.
We also discussed the obstacles associated with obtaining a driving licence: high costs, long waiting times, administrative complexity.
Plans for concrete actions:
In light of these findings, several suggestions emerged:
Create an exhaustive list of mobility offers in our area
Organise peer support workshops to prepare for the Highway Code
Offer training in professional IT tools tailored to young people
Encourage the sharing of skills in the use of technology between generations.
A promising initiative was shared by the APFE, which offers driving lessons led by a former driving school employee.
This meeting once again demonstrated the importance of our working together to meet the challenges of getting young people into work. We look forward to continuing these discussions at our next meeting on 13 November 2024, when we will have the pleasure of welcoming our transnational partners.
